Review management for roofers: how to get more Google reviews without buying software you do not need

How roofing companies get a steady stream of Google reviews: when to ask, how to ask, what to do about bad reviews, and when review management software is worth paying for.

In local search, reviews decide who appears in the map pack and who the homeowner calls first. Most roofers get a burst of reviews when they start asking, then forget. The companies that dominate their town simply never stopped.

When to ask

On the day the job is finished and the yard is cleaned up, while the homeowner is looking at a new roof. That is the peak of their goodwill. If no review appears within a week, one short reminder — then stop.

How to ask

  • Make it one tap. Send your direct Google review link by text, not “search for us on Google”.
  • Ask the crew leader to mention it at the walk-through, and the office to send the link the same afternoon.
  • Ask every customer. Not only the happy ones.
Google’s policies prohibit offering anything in exchange for reviews and selectively asking only satisfied customers. Breaking them can get reviews removed or the profile suspended — which costs far more than a few missing stars.

Answering reviews, especially bad ones

  • Reply to every review, good or bad, within a few days.
  • For a bad one: thank them, state the facts calmly, offer to fix it offline. Future customers read your reply more closely than the review.
  • Never argue, and never post private details.

Do you need review management software?

Not to start. A text with your review link, sent the day each job finishes, does most of the work for a one- or two-crew company. Software earns its fee when you run several crews or locations and need the asking to happen automatically, with reporting on who asked and who did not.

Reviews bring homeowners to your profile; your website still has to turn them into enquiries. See our Google Business Profile guide for roofers, and how to get more leads.
