Free online quote or a roofer's free estimate?
An online quote takes about a minute, needs nobody at your house and tells you what a roof your size typically costs. It can't see under the shingles.
A roofer's free estimate takes a visit, but the roofer can check decking, layers, flashing and pitch, and the price is one they will work to. Most homeowners need one before they sign.
The two work best together: get the online number first, then two or three roofer estimates, and you will know which of them are in the normal range.
