How roofers upsell gutters, siding and insulation without being pushy

The add-on jobs that naturally follow a roof replacement, how to quote them in the same conversation, and how to track them in your pipeline so they are not forgotten.

The homeowner replacing their roof has already decided to spend money on the outside of their house, already has crews and a dumpster in the driveway, and already trusts you. For gutters, ventilation and trim, you will never have a better customer — and most roofers never ask.

The add-ons that belong with a roof

  • Gutters and guards. They come off for the roof anyway. New ones hang on new drip edge, and the footage is visible from the same satellite image you quoted the roof from.
  • Attic ventilation and insulation. A new roof over a hot, poorly vented attic ages faster. Ridge vents and baffles are a small line on a big job.
  • Fascia and soffit. Rot is found when the gutters come down. Price it before you start, not as a surprise mid-job.
  • Skylights. Replacing one during a re-roof is far cheaper than on its own later.
  • Siding and trim at the roofline. Where walls meet the roof, the flashing and the siding are one job.

How to offer them without being pushy

Tie every add-on to something you found or measured. “Your gutters are 5-inch on a roof this size, and they are overflowing at the downspout” is a finding. “Do you want new gutters too?” is a sales pitch.

  • Quote each add-on as a separate option with its own price, never buried in the total.
  • Lead with the reason, then the price.
  • Accept a “not now” — and write it down.
“Not now” is the most valuable answer you will get. A homeowner who said the gutters could wait is the easiest gutter job you will ever sell, six months later.

Track them, or they disappear

Upsells are lost to memory, not to price. Note every offered add-on and its price on the lead in your pipeline the day you quote. In SatelliteQuotes, each lead carries notes and a status alongside the roof measurement, so the gutters you priced in March are still there when you follow up in September.
