Snow removal cost in 2026: per visit or a seasonal contract?
What snow plowing costs per visit on three drive sizes, with and without de-icing, how seasonal contracts are priced, and what to ask before you sign one.
Snow removal is sold two ways: per push, billed each time it snows, or one price for the whole season. Here is what each visit costs, how to tell which deal suits you, and what a contract should say.
What a visit costs
| Type | 400 sq ft drive | 800 sq ft drive | 1,200 sq ft drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Per push | $40 | $54 | $68 |
| Push + de-icing | $54 | $83 | $111 |
| Priority + de-icing | $68 | $111 | $154 |
Per visit, priced by the same engine our free quote tool uses, at its starter rates. 400 sq ft is a one-car drive, 800 a typical two-car drive, 1,200 a long one. Sidewalks and steps are usually a small extra per visit.
Per push or seasonal?
- Per push: you pay only when it snows past the trigger depth. Cheapest in a mild winter; in a heavy one it adds up, and you may wait behind contract customers.
- Seasonal contract: one price however often it snows, and you are on the route. Contractors price it from the plowable snowfalls they expect in your area.
To compare, multiply the per-visit price by the number of plowable snowfalls your area usually gets. At $54 a push, ten storms is $536. If the seasonal price is below what a typical winter would cost per push, the contract is the better bet.
What the contract should say
- Trigger depth: the snowfall that sends the plow, often 2 inches.
- What is cleared: drive, walks, steps, mailbox, and where the snow is piled.
- De-icing: included or per visit, and which product (some salts damage new concrete and plants).
- Season dates and whether visits are unlimited or capped.
- Damage: who pays for a damaged lawn edge, curb or driveway. Mark the edges with stakes before the first snow.
