Christmas light installers: how to quote faster and book more homes this season
For Christmas light installers: what a job is worth by house size, pricing per foot of roofline, why homeowners want a price before they call, and quoting from satellite instead of driving out to measure.
A Christmas light season is about eight weeks of selling and hanging. Every afternoon spent driving out to measure a roofline for an estimate is an afternoon not spent hanging lights — and many of those homeowners only wanted a rough number. Here is what a job is worth, how to price it, and how to let homeowners see the price before they call.
What a job is worth
At our engine's starter rates, per house:
| Type | 120 ft edge | 180 ft edge | 250 ft edge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mini lights on the gutter line, rented | $532 | $724 | $947 |
| Warm white C9 LED, installed and removed | $621 | $856 | $1,130 |
| Multicolour C9 LED, installed and removed | $650 | $900 | $1,192 |
| Permanent LED track lighting | $3,091 | $4,562 | $6,277 |
HomeAdvisor's 2025 guide puts professional installation at about $2.50–$7 a foot including the lights, hanging and removal. Permanent track lighting is the upsell: published guides put most installs at $2,000–$8,000.
Price per foot, with a floor
- Per foot of roofline, by light type — mini lights, C9s in warm white or colour, permanent track.
- A base fee for the truck, the ladder and the timer.
- A minimum job, so a small house is still worth the drive.
- Add-ons — bushes, a wrapped tree, pathway lights, a lit wreath on the door.
Homeowners want the price first
Most homeowners shopping for Christmas lights don't want a phone call yet; they want to know roughly what it costs before they decide anything. If your site only says “call for a free estimate”, many of them move on to the next installer who shows a number. Give them a rough price right away, and the people who then call you have already seen a figure they can live with — fewer wasted estimate trips, faster bookings.
Quote from the air
Aerial imagery gives you the roof edge in feet without a ladder or a drive. The SatelliteQuotes widget does it for the homeowner: they type their address, we trace the house, draw it lit up at night in warm white, colour or permanent lights, and price it at your rate per foot. To see the price they leave their name, phone and email, and the lead comes straight to your inbox with the footage measured. Try it as a homeowner would.
