Method and source
Counts are employer establishments in NAICS 238160, Roofing Contractors, from the US Census Bureau's County Business Patterns 2023 and 2022: a business location with paid employees in mid-March. A roofing company with several branches counts once per branch. Self-employed roofers with no staff are reported by Census only within a broader building-exterior group, so they are not included. Employees are mid-March counts; payroll is the year's total, so payroll per employee includes office staff and part-timers. Population is the Census July 2023 state estimate.
