FAQ
Questions, answered
How much does professional Christmas light installation cost?+
HomeAdvisor's 2025 cost guide puts professional installation at about $2.50–$7 per linear foot of roofline, including the lights, hanging and taking them down. Buying the lights instead of renting adds roughly $0.50–$2 a foot. A typical house has 120–250 feet of roofline.
How is the price worked out?+
Installers price the roofline by the foot. We trace your house from aerial imagery and measure the roofline a crew would light: the eaves as they are, and the sloped gable edges lengthened for your roof's pitch (a 6/12 gable end is about 12% longer than it looks from above), plus the peak if you want it lit. Then we add any bushes, trees or pathway lights you choose. Lighting only the front costs less — tell the installer what you want lit.
What about permanent Christmas lights?+
Permanent LED track lighting sits in a low-profile channel under the roof edge and changes colour from a phone, for every holiday. Published guides quote it per project, usually $2,000–$8,000, because it is bought once rather than hung each season. Our permanent Christmas lights cost guide works out when it pays for itself.
When should I book?+
Installers book up from October, and many hang lights from early November so they can go on after Thanksgiving. Taking them down is usually in January and is part of a rental price.
Is the estimate a firm price?+
No. It is your roofline priced at typical rates. Roof height and pitch, the number of storeys, and what else you light move the final number, so an installer confirms it before they start.
